Cancel Auto Pay

What Cancelling Auto Pay Means for Your Account

Cancelling Optimum Auto Pay stops automatic monthly payments from being charged to your saved payment method. Your Optimum service — cable, internet, or phone — is not affected. The service continues, but you must now pay your bill manually each month.

Service stays on: Cancelling Auto Pay does not cancel your Optimum subscription or disconnect your service.
Independent Guide: Cancel Auto Pay only through the official Optimum website at optimum.net or the official Optimum app. OptimummTV is not affiliated with Optimum.
Service Continues Unchanged

Your Optimum cable, internet, and/or phone service remains fully active after cancelling Auto Pay. There is no interruption related to the cancellation itself.

Automatic Payments Stop

From the next billing cycle after cancellation, no automatic charge will be made to your saved payment method. You are responsible for initiating each monthly payment manually.

Auto Pay Discount May Be Removed

If your account includes a monthly Auto Pay discount, cancelling may remove it. Check your billing statement after cancellation to confirm your new monthly amount and whether the rate changed.

You Must Pay Manually Going Forward

After cancellation, pay your bill online, via the app, by phone, or in person at an Optimum store each month before the due date. Missing a payment could result in a late fee or service interruption.

Before You Cancel

Checklist — Before You Cancel Auto Pay

Run through these checks before turning off Auto Pay to make sure the cancellation does not create an unexpected billing problem.

Check When Your Next Payment Is Due

If your next billing date is only a few days away and Auto Pay has not yet processed, cancelling now may mean that cycle is not paid automatically — you would need to pay it manually straight away. Know your due date before cancelling.

Check Whether Auto Pay Already Processed This Month

If Auto Pay has already charged your account for the current billing cycle, the cancellation will apply from the next cycle. You do not need to make a manual payment this month — it is already covered.

Note Whether You Have an Auto Pay Discount

Check your current billing statement to see if a monthly discount (such as "$5 off for Auto Pay") is being applied. After cancellation, this discount will likely be removed, increasing your monthly bill. Factor this into your decision.

Decide How You Will Pay After Cancellation

Choose your post-cancellation payment method — online, app, phone, or in-store — and know your account login or account number so you can pay on time each month. See our payment options guide.

Have Your Account Login Ready

You will need to log in to your Optimum account to cancel Auto Pay. If you have forgotten your password, reset it before starting — this avoids interrupting the cancellation process mid-flow.

Consider Updating Instead of Cancelling

If you are cancelling because your card expired or you want to switch to a different payment method, you may be able to update your Auto Pay card rather than cancelling entirely — keeping the discount and the automatic payment convenience. See our Auto Pay guide.

Step-by-Step

How to Cancel Optimum Auto Pay — Step by Step

Auto Pay can be cancelled through the official Optimum website or the Optimum mobile app. Both follow the same steps — choose whichever is most convenient.

Cancel via Website — optimum.net
1
Go to optimum.net and log in

Open a browser, navigate to the official Optimum website, and log in with your Optimum username and password. Use a secure, private browser window — especially on shared computers.

2
Go to My Account → Billing

From your account dashboard, click on My Account or Billing in the navigation menu. This takes you to your billing summary and payment settings.

3
Find Auto Pay or Automatic Payment

Look for a section labelled Auto Pay, AutoPay, or Automatic Payment. It will show your current enrollment status and the payment method attached. If not immediately visible, check under Payment Settings or Payment Methods.

4
Click Cancel Auto Pay or Turn Off

Select the Cancel, Turn Off, or Disable Auto Pay option. A confirmation prompt will appear — read it carefully and confirm the cancellation. The page should update to show Auto Pay is now inactive.

5
Check your email for confirmation

A cancellation confirmation email will be sent to your registered email address. Keep this email as proof — it is useful if Auto Pay charges continue by mistake after cancellation.

Cancel via App — iOS & Android
1
Open the official Optimum app

Open the Optimum app downloaded from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. If you do not have the app, download it only from the official store — verify the publisher is Optimum or Altice USA.

2
Log in with your Optimum credentials

Use your Optimum username and password. If Face ID or fingerprint login is enabled, use that. If you cannot log in, reset your password through the app or website before continuing.

3
Tap Billing or Account

From the home screen or bottom navigation, tap Billing or Account. This takes you to your payment summary and billing settings within the app.

4
Tap Auto Pay → Turn Off or Cancel

Find the Auto Pay or Automatic Payment section and tap the toggle or button to turn it off. Confirm when prompted. The app will show Auto Pay as inactive once cancelled successfully.

5
Check your email for confirmation

A cancellation confirmation should arrive by email. Screenshot the in-app confirmation screen as a backup. Retain both until you have confirmed Auto Pay has not charged you again.

Cancel Before Your Next Billing Date If you cancel Auto Pay after it has already processed for the current month, the cancellation applies to the next cycle only — the current month's charge will not be reversed. If you want to avoid the next Auto Pay charge, cancel at least a few days before your billing date.

Cancel by Phone

Cannot Find the Cancel Option? Cancel by Calling Optimum

If you cannot locate the Auto Pay cancel option in the website or app, you can request cancellation by calling Optimum customer service. Have your account details ready before calling.

1
Call the number on your Optimum billing statement

Use the official customer service number printed on your most recent billing statement. Do not use numbers from search results, emails, or third-party websites.

2
Select Billing or Account Management

When the automated menu answers, select the option for Billing, Account, or Payment Settings. This routes you to the correct team to handle Auto Pay cancellations.

3
Ask to cancel Auto Pay on your account

Once connected to an agent, verify your account and state clearly: "I would like to cancel Auto Pay on my account." Provide your account number and verification details when asked.

4
Note the agent name, call time, and reference number

Before ending the call, ask for the agent's name, a reference number for the cancellation request, and confirmation that Auto Pay has been disabled. Write these down — they are your evidence if Auto Pay charges continue after cancellation.

After Cancellation

What to Do After Cancelling Optimum Auto Pay

Once Auto Pay is cancelled, these are the immediate steps to take to make sure your billing stays on track and you do not accidentally miss a payment.

1
Save the cancellation confirmation email

Move the confirmation email to a safe folder and keep it for at least two billing cycles — in case Auto Pay charges your account again by mistake. If that happens, you have written proof of cancellation to provide when requesting a refund.

2
Note your next bill due date

Check your next billing statement or log in to your Optimum account to confirm your next due date. This is now the date you must pay by — with no Auto Pay to do it automatically. Mark it in your calendar.

3
Set a recurring monthly payment reminder

Set a recurring calendar reminder for three to five days before your Optimum due date each month. This buffer means that if your first payment attempt has a minor issue, you have time to try an alternative method before the due date passes.

4
Choose your manual payment method

Decide whether you will pay online, through the app, by phone, or in person at an Optimum store. Make sure you have the account details or login ready for whichever method you choose. See our cable bill pay guide for all options.

5
Review your next billing statement for rate changes

If you had an Auto Pay discount, check your next billing statement to see the updated monthly amount. If the new rate is higher than expected or an Auto Pay charge appeared after cancellation, contact Optimum billing with your cancellation confirmation. See our billing dispute guide.

6
Re-enroll in Auto Pay at any time

Changed your mind? You can re-enroll in Auto Pay at any time through the same Billing section on optimum.net or the Optimum app. Re-enrollment will apply from the next billing cycle. See our Auto Pay setup guide.

Why Cancel?

Common Reasons Customers Cancel Optimum Auto Pay

Understanding why you are cancelling helps determine whether cancellation is the right step — or whether updating your Auto Pay settings is a better option.

Card expired or replaced

Consider updating the payment card instead of cancelling — you keep the discount and the convenience of Auto Pay.

Switching bank accounts

Update the bank account in Auto Pay settings rather than cancelling — keeps your discount intact.

Want more control over when payment is made

Switching to manual payment is the right choice here — review bill first, pay when ready.

Disputing a charge before Auto Pay processes it

Cancelling before the billing date prevents Auto Pay from charging a disputed amount. See our billing dispute guide.

Budget management — prefer to pay when ready

Some customers prefer to initiate payments manually to align with their income schedule.

Troubleshooting

Auto Pay Cancellation Problems — Troubleshooting Guide

If the cancellation process is not working as expected, use these steps to resolve the most common issues.

Cannot Find the Auto Pay Cancel Option

Try navigating to My Account → Billing → Payment Methods or Payment Settings. If still not visible, try logging out and back in, or try a different browser. If you still cannot find it, call Optimum customer service and ask them to cancel Auto Pay on your account over the phone.

Auto Pay Charged My Account After I Cancelled

If Auto Pay charged you after you cancelled, provide your cancellation confirmation email (with date) to Optimum billing and request a refund of the incorrectly charged amount. See our billing dispute guide for how to frame the refund request. Note the reference number from your cancellation call or email.

No Cancellation Confirmation Email Received

Check your spam or junk folder first. If genuinely not received, log back in to your Optimum account and verify that Auto Pay shows as Off or Inactive in the Billing settings. Take a screenshot as your own record. If the account still shows Auto Pay as active, the cancellation may not have completed — repeat the process or call Optimum.

Cannot Log In to Cancel

If you have forgotten your Optimum login password, use the Forgot Password option on the login page to reset it. If your account is locked, contact Optimum customer service for account recovery before attempting to cancel Auto Pay. See our account help guide.

However, you must now pay your bill manually each month before the due date to avoid late fees or service interruption.

No. Cancelling Auto Pay only stops the automatic payment — it does not cancel your Optimum subscription or disconnect your service. Your cable, internet, or phone service remains active as long as you continue to pay your bill manually each month.

If your account has a monthly Auto Pay discount applied, cancelling Auto Pay will typically remove that discount from your next billing cycle, resulting in a slightly higher monthly bill. Check your billing statement after cancellation to confirm any rate change. If you want to keep the discount, consider updating your payment method instead of cancelling.

Yes. You can cancel Auto Pay at any time. If you cancel before your next billing cycle processes, Auto Pay will not charge your payment method for that cycle — but you will need to pay the bill manually. If Auto Pay has already charged your account for the current cycle, the cancellation applies from the following month.

Try navigating to My Account → Billing → Payment Settings or Payment Methods. If still not visible, try a different browser or log out and back in.
